Callaway Vineyard & Winery was founded by golf great Ely Reeves Callaway Jr. After studying at Emory University and fighting in WWII he eventually found his way to the Temecula Valley where the Callaway Vineyards were first planted in 1969. Several United States Presidents as well as Queen Elizabeth II have enjoyed Callaway Wines. Mr. Callaway passed in 2001 and the winery is now privately owned by the Lin Family of San Diego, CA. Callaway wines are exclusively sold at the winery and are not sold in retail stores.
The property includes the Meritage Restaurant, wine shop, tasting room, visitor's center and banquet facility. Wine tastings cost $10 per person during the week and $12 per person on the weekends. The tasting room is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.
